Getting Started

The basics of joining and playing Ribbons & Reins.

Game Overview

Curate your perfect herd of horses or pack of dogs, discover new bloodlines, and shape a program that is entirely your own.

Each player may own multiple properties, maintain horses and dogs, participate in shows, and interact with the community through a single account.

Accounts

  • Each member may maintain one player account. Your forum account is also your Ribbons & Reins login.
  • Account sharing, impersonation, or attempting to bypass game restrictions is not permitted.

Merits

  • Merits recognize your milestones and achivements in Ribbons & Reins. All Merits can be found in the Merit Book. Earned Merits are shown in full color while unearned ones are in muted greyscale.
  • Each Merit also earns you Merit Points. Merit Points unlock spiffier features (such as bulk show creation and automated show running).

Properties & Facilities

Land, barns, kennels, arenas, and property ownership.

Property Ownership

  • Players may own up to four properties. Properties may be designated as a stable, kennel, or mixed property.
  • Each property has its own land allocation and facilities.

Land

  • Facilities require land. A property cannot build a facility if there is not enough unused land available.
  • Additional land may be purchased through the property management page.

Facilities

  • Barns provide horse capacity, kennels provide dog capacity, and arenas allow a property to host shows.
  • Players may own multiple facilities of the same type, and each facility may be given its own name.

Horses & Dogs

Ownership, registration, care, and animal management.

Animal Ownership

  • Horses and dogs must be housed within the available capacity of the player's properties.
  • Animals can be acquire by creating, breeding, purchasing from other player, and by purchasing from the market.
  • Creating a foundation animal requires one (1) token.
  • A animals' avaliable colors are scoped to their breed. So they will always be breed appropriate.
  • Foundation and market animals have no recorded pedigree.
  • Market and foundation animals may have a background which adds additional flavor to the game. Backgrounds cannot be edited once entered.
    • A foundation animal's background can be entered at registration or added later.
    • A market animal's background is generated automatically.

Animal Breeding

  • Horses may be bred starting at the age of three. Dogs at the age of two.
  • In order to be bred a mare or bitch must be housed.
  • Genetics are not inherited in R&R. There are two options:
    • The game chooses the color based on the breed with the parents' colors being more prevelent.
    • The breeder chooses the color(s).
  • Liters have a minimum size of two (2) pups and a maximum of six (6) pups.
  • A mare may have one foal per birth year. Likewise, a bitch may have one liter per birth year.
  • You can breed using a sire you own or one approved through the Stud Directory.

Names

  • Animal names should be appropriate for the community and may not be shared with a well-known real life animal.
  • All market animals are initially registered with the "MKT" suffix to help prevent potential registration conflicts.
  • The only animals that can be freely renamed (one time only) are newly born animals and ones purchased from the market.

Showing & Competition

Entries, hosting, results, and competition conduct.

Entering Shows

  • Animals must meet all class eligibility requirements before they may be entered into competition.

Hosting Shows

  • A property must have an eligible arena before the owner may host a show from that property.

Economy

Banking, purchases, sales, and player transactions.

Banking

  • Our primary currency is called Bits () and is used for most in-game purchases . You can earn Bits a number of ways including by hosting and placing in shows, selling animals, and by offering stud services.
  • Our active member incentive is called Ribbons (). Ribbons are earned by participating in the community and by being active.
  • Facility and land purchases are deducted automatically when the transaction is completed.

Community Standards

Behavior, forum conduct, and fair play.

Member Conduct

  • Treat other members respectfully. Harassment, discrimination, threats, and deliberate disruption of the community are not permitted.

Fair Play

  • Bugs, exploits, or unintended mechanics should be reported to staff rather than intentionally used for personal advantage.
  • Any one found exploiting bugs or intentionally trying to "game the system" or intentionally trying to have a monopoly will be warned and if the behavior continues they will be removed from the game.
